Wire Spooling Machine Operator

Position Overview:

A Wire Spooling Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining wire spooling machinery used in various industries, such as aerospace, defence, construction, and manufacturing. Their primary duty is to ensure the efficient and safe spooling of wire onto reels or spools according to specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Machine Setup: Set up and prepare the wire spooling machine before starting the spooling process. This includes adjusting tension, speed, and other machine settings based on the wire type and spooling requirements.
  2. Wire Spooling: Operate the wire spooling machine to wind wire onto reels or spools in the desired pattern and configuration. The operator must maintain consistency in the winding process to ensure the integrity and quality of the spooled wire.
  3. Quality Control: Inspect the wire during spooling to identify any defects, such as kinks, knots, or irregular winding. The operator is responsible for ensuring that the spooled wire meets quality standards and specifications.
  4. Measurement and Cutting: Measure and cut the wire to the required length once the spooling process is complete. This may involve the use of cutting tools or automatic cutting mechanisms integrated into the machine.
  5. Material Handling: Load wire coils onto the spooling machine and remove the spooled wire reels once the process is finished. The operator must handle materials safely and efficiently to prevent damage or accidents.
  6. Machine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on the wire spooling machine to keep it in good working condition. This includes cleaning, lubricating, and conducting minor repairs as necessary.
  7. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols while operating the wire spooling machine. Identify and report any safety hazards or issues to the appropriate personnel.
  8. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of spooling activities, including the type of wire, spool dimensions, lengths, and any relevant production data.
  9. Collaboration: Coordinate with other team members, such as supervisors, quality control personnel, and machine maintenance technicians, to ensure smooth production flow and address any operational concerns.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as a wire spooling machine operator or similar role is preferred.
  • Familiarity with wire types, gauges, and spooling techniques is advantageous.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to handle machine setup and minor maintenance tasks.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy wire coils and spools.
  • Attention to detail and quality-conscious mindset.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors.
